Henna – the leaves, harvested from the shrub Lawsonia inermis, produces a brown colour tending toward a red-orange. The dye comes from leaves that are dried and ground and bonds well with protein, and hence is used to dye skin (mendhi), hair, fingernails, leather, silk and wool. On cellulose fibers henna yields light but interesting colours.
