The featured piece this week is a teak office box. This is a larger version of the teak cash box, which would be used by merchants in a small shop or stall. The box could be easily carried to the market on market day. This version has inlay brass corner pieces and is very solid. The wood shows a beautiful warm finish. The interior features a number of small compartments and a removable tray which permits access to the interior of the chest. This is a great piece for storing trinkets, a special collection of coins, shells, pens, or documents. It can also be used as a writing table when sitting on the floor. The box shown is about two feet long by one foot wide.
