In this section we have grouped together the supplies we bring in from Japan for specific textile techniques such as Katazome, Shibori, and Tsutsugaki. Some of these supplies, however, can be used for a variety of surface design processes.

Shinshi These bamboo stretchers have pins on each end and are used to stretch fabric while painting.

Nori Tsutsu - Mulberry Cone Specially made from handmade mulberry paper which has been treated and cured. These cones work on the same principle as a cake decorator. When soaked in water they become soft at which time different sized nibs can be applied. Resist is then put inside and squeezed through for designing. When finished they are washed, dried and ready to be used over and over.

Cone Brass Tip Sets For use with the Nori Tsutsu Cones. For best results the size of tips and cones must match.

Marukiri - Katazome Punch Used for katazome design work when cutting the mulberry paper.

Mulberry (Katagami) Paper This handmade paper, made from the inner bark of the mulberry tree, has been specially treated to be used for stencils. It is durable and has a wonderful smell.

Silk Gauze Reinforces the mulberry stencil after it is cut.

Maiwa Handprints Katazome Manual An excellent, in-depth journey from stencil cutting and paste making to application and dyeing.

Ikat Tape Poly ikat tape is a super strong, flexible tieing material form Japan which is excellent for ikat and bound resist. It is dye resistant and splits easily into strips as small as 1/16Ó in width.

Shibori Kit This kit makes knot tieing for bound resist work or shibori go much easier and faster. English directions included.

Japanese Thimble This small leather thimble is extremely comfortable and grips well. It is flexible, protects well and adjusts easily.
